Greenwich Symphony Orchestra

Begun in 1958 as the Greenwich Philharmonia, it became fully professional by 1967. The orchestra’s 90 members perform at the Dickerman Hollister Auditorium at Greenwich High School. It also performs a pops concert in the summer. Emanuel Ax, Barry Douglas, Pamela Frank, John O’Conor, Peter Serkin, and Dawn Upshaw. David Gilbert has been music director and conductor since 1975 and is also the director of the Bergen (NJ) Philharmonic and the Senior Concert Orchestra of New York. He lives in Nutley, N.J.

Griffith E. Harris Golf Course

The 18-hole “Griffith E. Harris” course at the Griffith E. Harris Golf Course facility in Greenwich, Connecticut features 6,512 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. The course rating is 70.5 and it has a slope rating of 120. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, ASGCA, the Griffith E. Harris golf course opened in 1963. Dave D’Andrea manages the course as the Manager.

Byram Beach and Pool

The Byram Beach attracts many residents, and for those bathers who prefer fresh water, the park has the only public pool in town, located right at the water’s edge. Bathhouses are available for those using both beach and pool. For sports enthusiasts, the Park has lighted tennis courts as well as the only lighted ball field in Greenwich.

Great Captain Island

During the summer months, there is a Ferry Service from the landing at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park off Arch Street in central Greenwich. Parking is available across Arch Street.

Island Beach

Island Beach, formerly known as Little Captain Island, is situated in Long Island Sound about two miles south of Greenwich Harbor. During the summer months, there is a Ferry Service from the landing at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park off Arch Street in central Greenwich. Parking is available across Arch Street.
